the new year

We have added to our family! We found this guy wandering around where we live and so we took him to the vet to see if someone would claim him and no one did and there was no room at the humane society... So We talked about it and then Coby came home to stay with us. It has been an ok transition. He has left his mark in our house but... We love him.

For New Years eve this year we were over the ocean on our way to Germany. We went to visit Lars' family. We had a wonderful time, had an opportunity to head up to the Baltic sea which was wonderful.

We also went to the Berlin aquarium, Lars was in his element.

We also did some walking and exploring in Berlin. Some shopping for chocolate and leather boots. I have learnt that my feet are smaller then the average Berlin ladies.

We returned to start new jobs. Hopefully this is a year new experiences. And maybe a couple more updates to the blog as well.

Projects around the house & A new Job

With making ourselves at home we haven't done everything at once. Like hanging pictures on the wall. The living room still has nothing hung up. I am the type of person that likes instant home. Everything in it's place the first weekend. The three picture frames are in our entrance when you come in. There were existing nails and we decided instead of taking them out and having holes we would add just another nail and make it three. As life changes we can change the photo's to reflect us and our experiences.

The other weekend we picked up our rain barrels at the arena in town. There was a special drive and they were cheaper then in the store! Another little project was our flower boxes that we made out of 100 year old barn board. Since our yard is a work in progress we wanted some color at the front door.

The latest project is our DECK! With some help from our cousins we were able to get a great start on Saturday. This week our work schedules became a little different so the deck will become complete this week other then the stairs which we will wait till we landscape the backyard.

With spring comes new life and new opportunities. However for Lars this new opportunity came about in a very unfortunate way. Something happened at work that bothered Lars and he wanted to bring it to the attention of his boss. The response was shocking. The person who did the wrong got his way. Strange that you can show up at work drunk and pick a fight and still get your way (both grounds for dismissal according to their guidelines). It turned into a very sad and frustrating reflection of some people in this area. Some ways of doing things that I do not agree with and it angers me when it done under the name of Christ. Long story cut short. Lars was moved into another department & pay-scale. Lars went out yesterday and got himself a new job and when he gave his notice they gave him the week off paid as it didn't make sense to train him in another dept. So my husband can finish the deck. ;)

I hope this is a good new beginning for Lars in a community that can be very hard to break into.

3 pic's

This is my lovely other half fitting in to our rural surroundings. :)

Getting pictures that are blog worthy of the house and been strangely hard to get. This is our dining room. We have a lovely east window and have wonderful morning light.

A little prairie landscape. Spring I think has left us and summer is here. However, things are a little wet. My parents have had water in the basement for two weeks now. The sun we are having right now will hopefully help.

The weekend is almost upon us and maybe another update as well.

Here we go...

It has been quite some time since I have blogged. But seeing as we have moved and are starting afresh I thought it might be a good time. My husband keeps bugging me as I stalk other blogs 'why I don't do my own'.

We finally got our internet going so I am able to a little updating. For the first couple months while we settled into jobs and looking for a house we stayed with my family.

Before we came to Winkler we had to say goodbye to some friends from Saskatoon.

Our new home (and all the snow that keeps coming)

We have some pictures up but many remain waiting to find their home.

Lars' empty tank, an eco-system getting ready for the fish.

Beautiful easter eggs from Berlin.

Our cookbooks have a home in our kitchen - the microwave shelf!

A little bit of color in midst of all the snow & mud.

We are starting to get settled, the list of projects on the 'to do list' keep growing and we anxiously wait for the mud to dry up.
